If there’s one thing I see on LinkedIn that gives me an instant ick, it’s “experts” telling beginner creators not to schedule posts.
Here’s why it annoys me:
The biggest challenge for beginner creators isn’t figuring out the perfect time to post or chasing algorithms.
It’s staying consistent.
But these so-called experts are advising against one of the most effective tools for building consistency: scheduling posts.
I'm gonna say this once and only once...
(alright, probably will say this again in future but still)
If you’re struggling to stay consistent on LinkedIn...SCHEDULE YOUR CONTENT.
Screw "but it reduces reach".
Your reach doesn't matter if you can't stick to keeping up posting.
I scheduled all my content since June 2022 and still do.
Here’s a simple 3-step formula to stay consistent:
1. Batch your writing
Set aside an hour or two and write as many posts as you can in one sitting. It’s easier to get in the flow and create better content when you’re focused. I do this every Monday morning.
2. Schedule your posts
Use LinkedIn’s scheduling tool if you don't want to risk using a 3rd party tool. That's fine. Take a few minutes to schedule your next week of content.
3. Enjoy automatic consistency
Sit back, put yer feet up and watch your audience grow while you focus on other things in your business. You know, important things, like starting conversations, driving new sales and delivering for clients.
Anyone who says this doesn't work is a damn fool, as far as I'm concerned.
It removes the mental load of having to create something on the spot every single day. I couldn't do this. And I've written 1,000s of pieces of content. 1,000s!
You are proactively staying consistent without overwhelming yourself and that is a beautiful thing for anyone running a business (or even if you don't and you just want to write online and build an audience.
Yes, some people will say “but isn’t scheduling inauthentic?”
Nope, it isn't.
Just because you're scheduling doesn't mean you can't still engage with your audience in real time when you post - that's "authentic".
Just because you're scheduling doesn't mean you're not writing things that matter to you and in your own way - that's "authentic".
Writing posts in one go then scheduling them vs writing a post each day and posting manually, makes no freaking difference to the "authenticity".
It simply makes sure you get your message out there consistently, whether or not you have the time that day.
Consistency is what builds trust. Facts.
And trust makes people look forward to hearing from you.
If you’ve been struggling to stay consistent, try this - I BEG of you.
You can thank me later ✌️
Cheers,
Matt Barker
P.S...struggling to post consistently on LinkedIn?
You might be missing accountability.
I recently hired a business coach to help build my 2025 strategy (and beyond). Not because I don't know what to do. I could do that myself. But I need accountability - I need to invest in it, put money on the line and have someone in my corner driving me forward.
Same thing if you can't post consistently:
- You need someone in your corner pushing you
- You need to invest to raise the stakes
- You need reassurance and feedback
That someone could be me.
So...if you're a creator and you need to be held accountable for your content...
And you want weekly feedback so you're not just consistently posting, but consistently becoming a better writer...
